Bequests

Leave a Legacy – Bequests

For over 50 years, Waireka has been built on the generosity and vision of our community. From the early days of establishing the Waireka Rest Home to the creation of the Waireka Community Trust, gifts and bequests have played a vital role in shaping our story.

By leaving a gift in your will to the Waireka Community Trust, you help us continue supporting the initiatives across the Bush community (Woodville, Pahiatua, and Eketahuna). Every bequest, large or small, makes a lasting impact—funding projects that strengthen families, care for the vulnerable, and enrich community life.

What to do when making a Bequest:

  • Talk to the professionals
We recommend discussing your wishes with a solicitor. A bequest is no small decision, so working with the right people on what you decide to give, will help ensure it is being clearly documented and looked after to its fullest potential.

  • Make your family aware of your intentions
Sit down with your family and let them know about your plans of making a bequest to Waireka Community Trust – whether that may be a fixed amount given, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset.

  • Make it official
Include the Waireka Community Trust in your will. Unfortunately, a verbal agreement or a note in a letter is not sufficient enough to carry out your personal wishes, so having a legal document will certify that your bequest can be made possible.

Why it matters

Your legacy will help us fund local community programmes and initiatives that make a real difference for generations to come. If you’d like to talk about leaving a bequest or need more information, please contact us at manawatu@bdo.co.nz
